President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate replacement of the bollards in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 after a sports utility vehicle rammed the area last Sunday, killing a child and an Overseas Filipino Worker.
"The bollards will be inspected and replaced quickly for the safety of the public," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in Filipino in a press briefing Tuesday.
Castro said Marcos has instructed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to look into reports that the bollards in NAIA Terminal 1 were substandard.
She said the bollards were installed in 2019 during the time of former Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
Recent vehicular accidents in NAIA and SCTEx prompted the President to order Dizon for a nationwide crackdown against erring bus operators and a review of driver licensing procedure. DMS
