Marcos orders probe on Isabela bridge collapse

2025/3/2 英字

Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the investigation of the collapsed portion of a bridge in Isabela province.

In a radio interview on Saturday, Castro said that the investigation is to see if there is corruption involved in the recent incident.

This comes after six individuals were injured after a bridge in Isabela province, that was recently opened last February 1, collapsed after a dump truck carrying 102 tons of boulders and three vehicles passed through.

"If there is any sign of corruption in what happened since it (the bridge) was built in 2014 until now ... it is rightful that (the individuals involved) should take accountability for it ... that's what the President said", Castro said. (Kung may bahid man ng korapsyon sa nangyaring ito mula pa noong 2014 hanggang sa ngayon kung mayroon man, hindi talaga puwedeng hindi managot ... iyan ang sabi ng Pangulo ... )

Castro said that it's the obligation of local government unit's (LGU) building officials to take initiative on regularly checking establishments, especially bridges.

"They should be the one checking as the President won't be able to check on it one by one ... and in case of any issue they should then coordinate with DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways)", Castro added. Marie Manalili/DMS
