The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation will implement an increase in toll rates effective March 2, Sunday.

In a notice on Thursday, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) authorized NLEX Corporation to adjust its toll by P5 in the open system and P0.72 per kilometer in the closed system.

Based on the new toll fee matrix, travelers in the open system will pay an additional P5 for Class 1 (regular cars and SUVs), P13 for Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks), and P15 for Class 3 vehicles.

End-to-end toll fare will cost an additional P57 for Class 1 vehicles, P142 for Class 2 vehicles, and P171 for Class 3 vehicles.

NLEX Corporation said in the statement that the adjustments "are the consolidated amount of periodic adjustments of NLEX due in 2023 and the add-on toll for the completion of the P7.7B new Candaba 3rd Viaduct in 2024".

"The increase due in 2023 was deferred and divided into two tranches to ease the impact on expressway users", it added.

The open system of NLEX runs from Metro Manila in the cities of Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan to Marilao, Bulacan, while its closed system covers portions between Bocaue, Bulacan, Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, and Subic-Tipo. Marie Manalili/DMS
