The Philippine military is studying if it could withheld monthly pensions of retired officers who are reportedly calling on personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to rebel against the administration of President Marcos.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said this is among options they are studying to impose against retired officers who have been making statements on social media platforms that incite sedition.
Another possibility is whether they can still be tried under court martial proceedings even if the retirees are civilians.
Padilla said the AFP have been monitoring some retired officers critical of Marcos who have made attacks on their social media accounts after the President exposed anomalies in flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad of the Philippine Navy declined to identify their former colleagues who have been calling making these comments.
Trinidad said retired military officials should propose solutions that will not result in destabilizing the government.
For retirees who are spreading false information about the military on their social media platforms, the AFP is eyeing criminal cases against them for violating cybercrime laws. DMS
