The Supreme Court on Wednesday declared as unconstitutional both the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act Nos. 58 and 77 and ordered the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to prepare to hold the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections no later than March 31, 2026.
"Now, it is very clear that we have no law to enforce. It's back to zero," said Comelec Chairman George Garcia in a short statement.
He said they will just have to wait for the action of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA).
The SC has ordered the BTA to set the parliamentary districts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) that will be used in the BPE.
The Comelec also assured the BARMM that the BPE will not be cancelled.
"The Commission promises that there will be an election in the Bangsamoro. As to when, that is what we are currently waiting for," said Garcia. DMS
