Major Filemon Tan, Jr., Western Mindanao Command spokesman, named the freed Indonesian sailor as Herman Bin Manggak.

Herman’s release came four days after the Abu Sayyaf bandits freed three Indonesian sailors. Released on Sept. 18, were Lorence Koten, fishing boat captain, and crewmen Teo Doros Kofong and Emmanuel Arakain.

The Abu Sayyaf bandits seized them on July 9, 2016 off Lahad Datu, Sabah.

The Abu Sayyaf are holding 15 hostages: five Indonesians, five Malaysians, four Filipinos and one Dutchman

Herman was initially taken to a camp of the Moro National Liberation Front in Sitio Bakud, Barangay Kagay, Indanan, Sulu.

Tan said the MNLF handed over Herman to the Joint Task Force Sulu around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Tan said Herman was brought to Camp General Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital for medical examination and debriefing.

The Abu Sayyaf bandits seized Herman, a skipper of a Malaysian-flagged fishing vessel, along with two of his crew on August 3, 2016 in the Malaysian side of the Kinabatangan border area in Sabah.
