Two of eight Makati robbery cases before courts, five considered solved: police

Two out of nine robbery incidents involving Japanese citizens from October 2024 to May 2025 recorded by Makati Central Police Station were raised to the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Makati police said on Thursday.

Based on the database of the Makati Central Police Station, the robbery case which happened on November 2, 2024, was filed before the RTC Branch 66.

The suspect from the robbery case on November 8, 2025, was arrested and underwent inquest proceedings at the RTC Branch 61.

Five other incidents were considered solved, a police report said. However, victims refused to push through with filing a robbery case by filing an affidavit of disinterest. The eighth incident, a robbery at a Japanese restaurant in San Lorenzo last May 4 is still under investigation.

Refusing to undergo a tedious process and a temporary stay of Japanese victims in the country were possible causes of their disinterest in filing a case.

"Despite explanation from the PNP (Philippine National Police) that we will assist them in filing the case, some do not want to undergo a tedious process which is the trial," said Capt. Jenibeth Artista, public information officer, Makati City Police Station.

Makati police is continuing its coordination with the Japanese Embassy and the Makati Central Business District and intensifies its information efforts online to lessen robbery incidents. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
