Six persons were killed while many were injured after two separate vehicular mishaps in Quezon City and Baguio City on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Information from the Quezon City Traffic Division showed that the incident took place around 11:30 pm along Batasan-San Mateo Road.

A container truck, carrying construction materials enroute to Marikina, was plying the downhill portion of the road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The truck fell sideways and hit two cars and three motorcycles and three individuals, including a man standing on the side of the road and a motorcycle rider, died on the spot.

Seven others were hurt. The truck driver is currently under custody of the Quezon City Police District.

In a radio interview on Thursday, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) spokesperson Attorney Ariel Inton said that the agency is confirming whether the truck had an active franchise, and if so, a show cause order will be issued to the truck operator and driver to explain the circumstances of the accident.

"We're verifying if the truck has a franchise. If it does have a franchise, if it's for hire, the LTFRB will issue a show cause to the operator of the truck," Inton said.

The Land Transportation Office, meanwhile, has suspended the driver's license.

In Baguio City, three persons were killed and one was injured when a delivery van smashed into three vehicles along Bokawkan Road around 3:30 am on Thursday.

Initial investigation of the Baguio City Police Office showed that a Isuzu Forward delivery truck was seen swerving and speeding down Bokawkan Road towards Agrix, when it rammed into a Tamaraw FX, pushing it into the front glass door of a grocery store.

The truck hit traffic signs and a parked Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi L300.

An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
