Duterte Youth partylist to file impeachment complaint against Marcos

Duterte Youth partylist group have announced their plans to file an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for allowing the arrest and eventual surrender of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Former Duterte Youth Partylist Rep. Marie Cardema and her husband, former National Youth Commission chairperson Ronald Cardema, posted a photo on the Duterte Youth's Facebook page on Tuesday holding a 'verified impeachment complaint' against Marcos.

"At the moment, as endorsed by Duterte Youth Party-List, Ronald Cardema and Marie Cardema of Calamba City, are filing the first Impeachment Complaint against President Bongbong Marcos for allowing the transfer of a Filipino citizen, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to foreigners," the partylist said in a Facebook post.

The Cardema couple cited the provisions of Article XI (Accountability of Public Officers), Sections 2 and 3 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, as well as the Rules of Procedure in the Impeachment Proceedings of the 19th Congress of the Republic of the Philippines as basis of the impeachment complaints.

It is unclear if the impeachment complaint reached the office of House Secretary General Reginald Velasco for Congress is currently adjourned for the May 2025 midterm elections.

Duterte was flown to The Hague in the Netherlands and is awaiting trial in September for alleged crimes against humanity. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
