"It would take a miracle" for Senator Imee Marcos and Las PInas Rep. Camille Villar to enter the winning circle for Monday's national midterm elections, a political analyst said days before the midterm election.
In a radio interview, Julio Teehankee, a political analyst described the situation of Marcos and Villar as a "textbook case study on how to lose an election".
"It would take a miracle for them to enter the winning circle at the rate things are going. If they were able to enter the winning circle despite all the mistakes they have committed in their campaigns it will become a textbook case on how to win an election despite all the odds," he said.
"From the very beginning they have violated the basic principle in election campaigning. You begin with a compelling narrative and proper messaging because everything starts there. Now it's too late in the game for them to mix the force adjustment or course-correction in their messaging because the race is about to end," he added.
Based on surveys, Teehankee said the ranking of Marcos and Villar became unclear when they left the administration slate.
Teehankee said the senatorial candidates who will surely win this midterm election or those who are within the winning circle include ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo, Senator Bong Go, Senator Pia Cayetano, former Senator Tito Sotto, Senator Lito Lapid, and Senator Ronald Dela Rosa.
However, the other candidates who have a chance to win but might still be affected by the "last push" are Senator Bong Revilla, Makati Mayor Abigail Binay, former Senator Ping Lacson and former Senator Manny Pacquiao.
Teehankee also emphasized there is a chance for former Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan to be elected if they get the votes of the supporters of former Vice President Leni Robredo.
"For me the top six are already safe, we will see until next week that those in the bottom six will really have a tight competition, they will try to maintain their position in the last half of the winning circle," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
