Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said an investigation for possible abuse of authority will be conducted following an alleged incident where a police convoy allegedly carrying Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil used the Edsa Busway to attend an emergency meeting at Camp Crame on Tuesday night.

"Number one is the regular policy but number two it will be investigated whether it is abuse of authority or not," Remulla said referring to the possible sanction that will be imposed for violation of busway policy.

Saying he is not aware of the incident, Remulla said that he will ask Marbil to explain.

However, Remulla confirmed that Marbil was aware of the emergency meeting regarding the operation to rescue a student of an international school abducted in Taguig City last January 20.

"He was aware of the operations. We were in constant communication. I asked him to appear so whatever methodology he used to appear there let me make it clear, I did not give instructions to violate any traffic laws to get there. But he was aware of the emergency," he said.

"Again, it is news to me that it happen (ed). I have to confirm with him then I will ask for an explanation on what happened," he added.

Remulla also noted that the DILG will not tolerate violation of traffic laws as they have a firm agreement of a zero tolerance policy with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

"Let me make it clear, even me, I do not use the busway. We have a firm agreement with the MMDA that there is a zero tolerance policy," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
