Duterte warns it will be “bloody” if China invades Philippines

President Rodrigo Duterte warned on Wednesday it would be "bloody" if China invades the Philippines.

In a speech in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal, Duterte said his administration has to ensure the capability of the military if talks between the two countries fail.

"I'm afraid that if we cannot understand each other-- we have to pray for that-- we have to do something. What way can we best defend our country...in some our own little way because we are not that rich? But I'm sure, I guarantee to them, if you enter here, it will be bloody and we will not give it to them easily," Duterte said.

"It will be the bones of our soldiers, including mine, we'll not allow any country, we'll not allow it," he added.

He expressed hope China is dealing with the Philippines in "good faith". Duterte said the Philippines is not insisting on the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which ruled in Manila's favor invalidating China's nine-dash line.

But he said there would come a time the Philippines and China must talk on the issue. Celerina Monte/DMS
