The Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) says it will start livestreaming its hearings next week '' once we get to have the technical capability.''
Andres Reyes, a retired Supreme Court justice who chairs the commission, made the announcement during a public Senate hearing on Wednesday on a proposed Independent People's Commission to look into anomalies in government infrastructure projects.
''Inspite of no rules allowing us, we will now go on livestreaming next week once we get to have the technical capability with us. Again, we repeat we will be doing livestream next week,'' said Reyes.
The Senate's investigation on the flood control mess at the Blue Ribbon Committee is expected to start after Nov. 10 where Senator Panfilo Lacson Jr is supposed to return to his post as chairman of the panel.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr formed the commission 39 days ago to investigate the reported widespread anomalies in flood control projects, which have supposedly reached billions of pesos.
The commission had said they did not want livestreamed hearings because it tends to be trial by publicity. The body resorted to daily press conferences after hearings.
However, the Iglesia Ni Cristo urged the government to make the commission's hearings live streamed to make it transparent.
On Monday, businessmen's group urged the government to go after those responsible for the flood control project scandal. ''We don't want coverup,'' said Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Nina Mangio on the sidelines of a business conference. DMS
