The Philippines will not deploy a Navy ship in the West Philippine Sea to accompany civilian vessels despite the tendency of China to have a grey ship to accompany their vessels.
National Maritime Maritime Council spokesperson Alexander Lopez said Sunday that ''we will never do that.''
''The President said that whatever dispute we have, we will resolve it peacefully and maximizing our diplomatic channels and mechanisms.''
''Secondly, we should admit that China is the second biggest economy in the world and China is the biggest armed force in the world in terms of assets. (It has) the biggest navy... So it is a no-brainer, why wade it when you know we will lose?,'' Lopez added.
Last August 11, a Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy ship accompanied a Chinese Coast Guard vessel in the West Philippine Sea where they tried to harass a Philippine Coast Guard ship providing aid to Filipino fishermen in Scarborough Shoal.
As they tried to harass the PCG ship, the two vessels collided while the Philippine ship slipped away. DMS
