A man accused of duping several business establishments in Metro Manila while posing as an employee of a convenience store was arrested in Quezon City on Tuesday night.
Melvin Metila, 33, was arrested by operatives of the Eastwood Police Station 12 around 9:30 p.m. as he was about to steal P2,500 from a restaurant employee.
Police said the victim was about to give the bills in exchange for coins when he recognized Metila as the same person who duped them on April 9.
The establishment’s security guard and employees detained the suspect.
A news report said Metila stole money from at least 10 restaurants and other business establishments in Metro Manila, amassing around P140,000 in cash. He would say he was an employee of a convenience store and offer to exchange coins with bills.
He would then make excuses and disappear once he gets the money.
“Nag-aalok siya sa mga different restaurants, convenience stores, coffee shops na magpabarya, pagkatapos niya ito makuha sa charisma o pambobola niya binibigay naman sa kanya,” Station 12 commander Lt. Col. Von Alejandrino said in an interview aired over GMA News Unang Hirit. DMS
