Over 20 million pesos worth of damage to rice and corn fields were recorded following flooding caused by the southwest monsoon in Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
The city government of Malaybalay reported that seven barangays in Basakan district were affected by floods.
According to the City Agriculture Office, initial damage to rice and corn fields covering a total of 729 hectares rose to P23 million.
"It is known that this is not the final amount… (it) is still ongoing and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the coming days to obtain accurate data," the city noted.
Four homes were also damaged with more than 1,000 families affected by the disaster.
In a phone interview with the Daily Manila Shimbun, State Weather Specialist Lorie dela Cruz said that the area of Northern Mindanao including the province of Bukidnon have experienced cloudy skies with scattered rain showers in previous days due to the effect of the southwest monsoon.
