Three women, including a 65-year-old, died as they drowned in a flood in Misamis Oriental, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday.
In its latest situational report, three individuals attempted to cross an overflowing spillway on the evening of June 6, but they were swept away by a strong current in Barangay Camuayan, Balingasag which caused their deaths.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) monitored a Low Pressure Area (LPA) that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on June 6 and moved outside the PAR on June 11.
Along with the southwest monsoon, the LPA brought rainfall over portions of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The southwest monsoon and the LPA have affected 5,156 or 17,516 families living in 61 barangays across the country. in Region 10, 270 families or 1,016 individuals are staying in the evacuation center. Meanwhile, authorities recorded 91 families or 430 individuals staying outside evacuation centers.
These weather conditions have damaged 789 houses amounting to P50,000 due to strong winds and fallen trees.
Family food packs and kits worth more than P2 million were provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to 1,392 families in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur, one of the cities affected by the Southwest Monsoon.
Meanwhile, the 175 families affected by Habagat and Southwest Monsoon in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan were given medicines, relief items, hygiene, and sleeping kits from their local government unit (LGU) worth more than P34,000. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
