Bodies of two FA-50 pilots extricated from crash site: PAF

The bodies of the two pilots of the ill-fated FA-50 fighter jet were extracted from the crash site In Bukidnon early Thursday.

In an interview with reporters in Camp Aguinaldo on Thursday, Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, Philippine Air Force public affairs office chief, said the retrieval of the remains of the two pilots are ongoing.

"They (Army troops) are still in the process of retrieval. The process of retrieval are continues," she said.

On the other hand, Lt. Col. Francisco Garello, the 4th Infantry spokesman said the two bodies were ''successfully extracted around midnight, around 1 am they were extracted from the crash site going to pickup point in the municipality of Pangantucan.''

He added that the bodies were then transported to Cagayan de Oro City in Barangay Lumbia," he said.

Castillo said ''forensics (procedures) will push through" which can be done "within a day".

She also mentioned that the PAF is planning for the transfer of the remains to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City either Friday or Saturday or as soon as the remains are ready to give appropriate honors for the two pilots.

"We would want to give our aircrew the appropriate honors upon their arrival here in Villamor Air Base," said Castillo.

"Definitely there will be awards given to them as well as all the necessary assistance that will be given to the family," she added.

Castillo said that PAF investigators are on their way to the crash site that is being secured by the Army forces.

"They're going to look at the general area, the aircraft parts that are remaining there. And that's just part of the process. And along with that, they already had initial investigation also regarding the processes, the tactics, techniques, and procedures that are being carried out for the mission," she said.

She said the flight data recorder which will be helpful in the ongoing investigation was recovered.

"It will be brought to the experts and what we were going to find there, the usual, the data, flight data, all the fight data, the altitude, the airspeed, all the other things," she said. Robina Asido/DMS
