The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday said a total of 67,609 quarantine violations were recorded by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in just one week.

Of the 67,609 violations from June 7 to 13, 2021, 51,607 were on non-wearing of face masks, 426 on the conduct of mass gatherings, and 15,576 for failure to observe physical distancing.

Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said while there were fewer violators on mass gatherings during the period, there was an increase in not following physical distancing rules as compared to last week’s figures.

During his report to President Rodrigo Duterte last week, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said 50, 021 violators were caught not wearing mask, 613 for violation of mass gatherings and 13, 882 for not following physical distancing.

Malaya said police and barangay officials will continue to remind people to follow health protocols.

"This is for our own good and welfare," Malaya said.

He said these violators were apprehended and were booked for violations of ordinances of local government units before they were released. Ella Dionisio/DMS
