The Philippines has recorded two more cases of Zika virus to bring the country’s total number to eight, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday..

In a press conference, Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial said they two members of the same household living with the 45-year old Filipina earlier found positive with the Zika virus in Iloilo City .

“Two more cases tested positive for the Zika virus based on the test results done at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM),” said Ubial.

Both cases, she added, were found to have mild skin rashes but did not have other symptoms.

None of the new cases were also found to be pregnant, she noted.

“Local transmission was confined only within the affected household,” said Ubial.

Ubial said the mode of transmission was through mosquito bites after they ruled out sexual contact and blood transfusion.

She said all three persons have recovered. They did not require hospitalization.

Ubial said 10 more persons were tested and have tested negative. DMS
