Davao blast prompts Duterte to cancel working visit to Brunei

President Rodrigo Duterte cancelled his working visit to Brunei following the deadly blast in Davao City Friday night which left at least 14 people dead.

"The latest message I received from Davao is that the trip in Brunei is cancelled," Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in an interview over dzBB radio on Saturday.

Duterte was supposed to leave depart for Brunei around 4 pm Saturday and stay there until September 5.

But with the latest terror attack allegedly by Abu Sayyaf militants, Duterte found it imperative to stay put.

"He wants to give focus especially on the families of dead and injured survivors," said Andanar.

In an ambush interview at the blast site, Duterte said he will go to Laos in September 6 to 8 where the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit will be held and in Indonesia from September 8 to 9. Emmanuel Tupas/DMS
