2016/8/31 英字

The Philippine government is planning to conduct a trade and investment roadshow before the end of the year in Japan, Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez said on Tuesday.

In an interview in Makati City, Lopez said they received invitation from Japan to conduct the roadshow, which may take place by October or November.

"They're asking us to do a roadshow, like trade and investment roadshow in Japan to meet also Japanese investors," he said, citing this was raised during his bilateral talks with Minister of Economy Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko, at the sidelines of the ASEAN Economic Minister in Laos early August.

He said they were still finalizing the details for the roadshow, which may take place either in Tokyo or Osaka.

Asked if there were any concerns raised by the Japanese investors under the new administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, Lopez said, "they're happy with the developments in the country."

"They are bullish with the growth that we are having and we're about to have," he added.

The Philippine economy grew 7 percent in the second quarter of this year, bringing the gross domestic product growth during the first half to 6.9 percent. Celerina Monte/DMS
