Public works chief says gov't can take assets of persons linked to flood control scandal

Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon assures that the government can confiscate ill-gotten assets of individuals linked to the anomalous flood control projects even if the properties are out of the country.

It was explained by Dizon after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Wednesday that three of the 11 aircraft owned by former Ako Bikol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co departed the country for Malaysia and Singapore in August and September 2025.

In an interview with reporters, Dizon said the ill-gotten assets can be confiscated anywhere in the world as long as it was not sold to others.

"We know that there are assets that are no longer here in the country but the good thing is because they are not here in the country, they cannot be deregistered from CAAP so they cannot be sold," he said.

"It is important that it will not be sold anywhere, even if they are in Singapore, Malaysia, they will now become a subject for future forfeiture cases that will be filed by the national government," he said.

Dizon also mentioned that the DPWH and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) are set to meet on Saturday morning to discuss details regarding the filling of the civil forfeiture cases.

"It is our second meeting to discuss when the civil forfeiture cases against those involved (in the anomalous flood control projects) will be filed, so that the process to recover the (ill-gotten) money which is what the president and the people wants can be started," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
