Marcos: Resignation not enough, officials must face accountability

2025/10/7 英字

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said that resigning from office is not sufficient accountability for those behind anomalous infrastructure projects, saying officials must still be held responsible for the damage they caused, including the loss of lives.

During the latest BBM Podcast, Marcos stressed that resignation does absolve erring officials of culpability.

“That’s not sufficient. That’s not enough,” the President firmly replied when asked if individuals implicated in irregularities could escape accountability by resigning.

Marcos emphasized that accountability extends beyond stepping down, particularly when negligence or corruption results in devastating consequences.

“There is a great deal of damage that has been caused?not only financial damage or economic damage?but actual damage to people’s lives,” the President said.

Marcos pointed out the tragic impact of a defective flood control project.

“A lousy flood control project that collapsed during the flood, that killed a family. I mean, how can you live with that? I can’t live with it. So, I won’t live with it. So, I ? we’ll keep pushing,” the President said.

Marcos has repeatedly called for transparency and accountability in government projects, particularly in infrastructure spending, as public scrutiny heightens over alleged ghost and anomalous flood control projects. Presidential News Desk
