Second-running Duterte Youth Partylist leader files petition for certiorari before Supreme Court

2025/5/21 英字

The Duterte Youth Partylist, led by Ronald Cardema, has filed a petition for certiorari before the Supreme Court on Tuesday following the suspension of their proclamation by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The petition by Duterte Youth, which placed second. includes "an urgent request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and/or a writ of preliminary mandatory injunction".

"I hope that the Supreme Court listens to us. I hope the Comelec comes to their senses, this is a grave abuse of discretion", Cardema said. ''They should have nothing to do but proclaim us.''

The Comelec National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) suspended the proclamation of Duterte Youth Party-list and Bagong Henerasyon on Monday for "serious allegations raised in the above petition which involve grave violation of election laws".

"We only suspended (the proclamation) as a respect to the process because even if the national board proclaims the party-lists (who got their proclamation suspended), we can still decide on the cases (filed) before June 30", Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia added. Marie Manalili/DMS
