2025/4/28 英字

Self-rated poverty among Filipinos rose since to 55 percent in April from 52 percent in March, according to the Social Weather Station (SWS) survey on Saturday.

This marked the fourth straight month that surveys of self-rated poor rose. But the percentage of families who are not poor when down by four percentage points to a record-high 36 percent in March to 32 percent in April, SWS said.

The figures translate to around 15.5 million of self-rated poor families in April from 14.4 million in March, SWS said.

The survey was taken on April 11-15 using face-to-face interviews of 1,800 registered voters.

It said 32 percent considered themselves as not poor which fell four points from a record-high 36 percent in March while 12 percent considered themselves as borderline or being neither poor nor not poor.

"The three-point increase in the nationwide Self-Rated Poverty between March 2024 and April 2025 was due to increases in Mindanao, the Visayas, and Metro Manila, combined with slight decline in Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila)", SWS said. DMS-Marie Manalili
