Alleged members of the communist New People's Army have burned heavy equipment being used for the Kaliwa Dam project in Quezon province, police said on Sunday.

Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police spokesperson Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran said the incident transpired last Friday, around 6:30 pm, at Sitio Queborosa, Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta in Quezon.

The more or less 15 rebels torched three backhoes and one bulldozer owned by Northern Builders Corporation and were being used for road widening work for the Kaliwa Dam project.

Magsaysay Chairman Upiano Crisostomo reported the incident to the authorities.

“We will not let these rebels continue on doing and creating harassment in our community. You can be assure that we will do everything to identify the suspects and make them face the law,” Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, Director of Calabarzon police, said.

Authorities are now conducting blocking and pursuit operations against the perpetrators. Ella Dionisio/DMS
