Senate President Sotto dismisses reported leadership change

2025/10/7 英字

Senate President Tito Sotto dismisses reports that he is on the way out, stressing that his leadership is stable.

“The Senate is stable, both the majority and the minority. I am very sure that the Senate is stable. Under my leadership, we will make sure that everything will be transparent and accountable,” said Sotto.

Asked how confident he was that the majority bloc will continue to support his Senate presidency, Sotto replied: “Quite confident. But as usual, any senator who is elected into the leadership only serves at the pleasure of his colleagues, of his peers. So, let us leave it at that. But as far as I am concerned, as far as I know, I am quite confident that we are stable and that the leadership of the Senate is well in place.”

Sotto said he spoke to Senator Alan Cayetano and the minority leader did not mention any change in leadership.

Sotto's leadership was reportedly going to be put into question after Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson said he will give up his post as Blue Ribbon Committee chairman after criticisms from fellow senators that his investigation of the flood control project scandals was not impartial.

Sotto described Lacson's handling of the flood control project scandal as ''very good.''

The Senate will not be holding plenary sessions until Wednesday to tackle some bills, especially the 2026 budget before it adjourns on Friday, said Sotto. DMS
