Two of the country's biggest e-wallets said they have removed links to e-gaming as of Saturday evening, complying with a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) order.

In its Facebook page, GCash said: ''In compliance with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Memorandum No. M-2025-029, gaming access on GLife has now been suspended as of 8 pm, August 16, 2025.''

Maya said it has followed the BSP order, dzBB reported.

The BSP announced the order during Thursday's Senate hearing. Senator Erwin Tulfo warned BSP Deputy Gov. Mamerto Tangonan that he will be placed under contempt if these links are not taken down.

This measure was done as the government has yet to announce a policy on online gambling, where many Filipinos are said to be addicted.

"If I see a single link to gambling apps, I will cite you in contempt. The committee is serious?we have a problem, we have a crisis," Tulfo, chairman of the games and amusements committee.

''To withdraw your funds from your gaming wallet, please coordinate directly with the licensed gaming merchant or by visiting their official website, said GCash.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said: ''While GCash and Maya have pledged to comply with the BSP directive to unlink from online gambling sites, I urge PAGCOR and the BSP to ensure that these sites are fully and permanently disconnected from all e-wallet services.'' DMS
