A low pressure area at the western coast of Luzon will bring heavy rain until Friday, a state weather specialist reported Thursday.

In an afternoon briefing, Weather Specialist Leanne Loreto said the LPA was last spotted at the coastal waters of San Fernando City, La Union.

Four provinces including Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales are expected to experience 50 to 100 mm rain until Friday due to the LPA.

"Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impact in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall," the state weather bureau stated.

"The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property," it added.

Loreto said the LPA is expected to move westward until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday or until Saturday.

She added that the LPA outside PAR within the area of the Pacific Ocean has developed into tropical depression.

The tropical depression may enter PAR and name Fabian as it moves westward or towards the Philippine Sea.

However, other parts of the country including Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol Region are being affected by the Southwest monsoon. Robina Asido/DMS
