The Office of the Vice President (OVP) reiterated that the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte is ready should the Senate impeachment trial happen.

"The vice president is ready. She's been saying that she's eager to be able to present her case or her evidence in the impeachment court so that once and for all, all doubts cast on her will go away. That is what she wants" said Ruth Castelo, spokesperson of Vice President Sara Duterte, told reporters in a press conference in Mandaluyong on Wednesday.

A news report said a few senators are looking at August 4 for Duterte's impeachment trial to start, but Senate impeachment spokesperson Reggie Tongol told The Big Story no date has been set. The 20th Congress will convene on July 28.

Castelo explained that the lawyers of the vice president are also utilizing legal strategies available for their client.

"There are legal remedies that any lawyer can take. So in this case the lawyers of the vice president are taking legal remedies, legal strategies that are allowable in our system, so the VP will just wait for whatever decision the Supreme Court issues on this one, and should the impeachment trial go as planned the VP is prepared," she added.

Castelo was reacting to the recent Social Weather Station (SWS) survey which shows that 66 percent or "majority of Filipinos believe that Vice President Sara Duterte should respond directly to the impeachment charges filed against her."

The survey that was conducted from June 25 to 29, 2025 "found that 66 percent of respondents agree that Vice President Sara Duterte should confront the corruption allegations through the formal impeachment process".

"Mindanao has notably brought down the approval numbers due to the mere 55 percent agreeing that she must address the charges," it stated. Robina Asido/DMS
