Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) number 1 was raised in Batanes due to Typhoon ''Danas'', the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Sunday.

''Danas'' is the former tropical depression ''Bising'', which left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on July 4 at 2 pm, intensified as a tropical storm last Friday by 8 pm, a severe tropical storm after 24 hours, and was a typhoon as of 8 am Sunday.

Based on its 5 pm advisory, ''Danas'' was located 335 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, outside PAR, sustaining winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

It is moving northeast towards Taiwan at 15 kilometers per hour.

Danas is forecast to move northeastward in the next 36 hours, enter the northwestern boundary of PAR on Sunday night, and exit at the northern boundary of PAR by Monday morning.

With wind speeds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour, Batanes is forecast to experience rains with gusty winds, which may result in possible flooding and landslides, and has a minimal to minor threat to lives and properties due to strong winds.

The trough of Danas will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Babuyan Islands.

Rainfall amounting to 50 to 100 millimeters are expected over Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, and Zambales from Sunday to Tuesday afternoon, and Batanes, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Bataan only from Sunday to Monday afternoon, based on the latest heavy rainfall outlook.

Enhanced by the typhoon, the southwest monsoon will persist, affecting the rest of the country with cloudy skies, rain, and thunderstorms. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
