Marcos declines courtesy resignation of 21 Cabinet members

Nearly all of the Cabinet members President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. were retained as he declined the courtesy resignation of 21 more secretaries, led by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon whose post was confirmed by a Commission on Appointments committee earlier.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in a press briefing in Malacanang Tuesday, announced that Dizon will be keeping his post.

Meanwhile, Information, Communication, and Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda will also keep his position, yet his CA appointment hearing on Tuesday morning was not yet finalized due to lack of material time.

Dizon and Aguda confirmed their staying in the Marcos cabinet during their respective meetings with the CA panel.

The following officials will also be staying on:

- Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.

- Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado strella III

- Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara

- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez

- Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma

- Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian

- Department of Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa

- Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac

- Department of Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr.

- Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco

- Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan

- Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile

- Presidential Management Staff Secretary Elaine Masukat

- Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Romand Artes

- Mindanao Development Authority Chair Leo Tereso Magno

- Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns Antonio Cerilles

- Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.

- Bureau of Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio

- Treasurer of the Philippines Sharon Almanza

Marcos on May 21 ordered his Cabinet members to submit courtesy resignations for him to be able to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve in the realigned administration.

Francisco Lim was appointedas the new chair of Securities and Exchange Commission, replacing Emilio Aquino whose term expires on June 5.

Bersamin clarified that Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo will temporarily remain as the DFA Secretary while awaiting for his confirmation prior to his assignment as permanent envoy of the Philippines to the United Nations. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
