The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Mt. Kanlaon experienced "moderately explosive" eruption on Monday morning.

Kanlaon's "moderately explosive" eruption at 2:55 am on Tuesday lasted five minutes and emitted a 4.5-kilometer plume that drifted southwest.

The plume brought thin ashfall to barangays Cubay, San Miguel, Yubo, and Ara-al at La Carlota City, Barangays Ilijan and Binubuhan in Bago City, and Barangays Biak-na-Bato, Sag-ang, and Mansalanao in La Castellana.

Phivolcs recommended the community within a 6-kilometer radius of the crater to vacate the area "due to the danger of pyroclastic density currents or PDCs, ballistic projectiles, ashfall, rockfall, and other related hazards."

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a Notice to Airmen, preventing flight operations close to the volcano's summit "due to the potential hazards posed by volcanic ash."
