Vice President Sara Duterte said former President Rodrigo Duterte will leave his fate up to God as he faces charges for alleged crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court at The Hague, Netherlands.

"He was referring to his fate. He said he will leave it up to God", she told reporters and supporters after her visit to her father in detention on Friday afternoon in the Netherlands.

Duterte added her father said "the country will get worse and worse because clearly the governance in our country is fractured and the people are disgruntled".

"I think he doesn't mind being detained as he knows that it is a part of what he said before that he will face any case against him", the Vice President added.

Duterte was arrested on March 11 due to a warrant of arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly committing crimes against humanity. A confirmation of charges hearing is scheduled on September 23.

His arrest sparked protests from supporters, whether on the streets and on social media, as they feel that it was illegal since the country was no longer part of the ICC. A Senate hearing was held recently to examine the circumstances behind his arrest.

Duterte said that her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman and her father's common-law partner Honeylet Avancena and daughter Veronica Duterte are set to arrive at The Hague this week for the 80th birthday of the former President on March 28. Marie Manalili/DMS
