The future BRP Diego Silang, the second Miguel Malvar-class guided missile frigate of the Philippine Navy arrived in Subic from South Korea on Monday, a Philippine Navy official announced Tuesday.

Philippine Navy spokesperson Capt. Marisa Arlene Martinez said the ship carried out a coordinated meeting procedure with the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Gabriela Silang as it sailed in Philippine waters off the coast of Zambales on September 8..

It was also welcomed by BRP Jose Rizal as it traversed the Philippine waters approximately 14 nautical miles northwest of Botolan, Zambales.

"The soon-to-be BRP Diego Silang will undergo final preparations, acceptance procedures and commissioning before officially joining the Philippine Navy’s active fleet," said Martinez.

"Upon joining the active Fleet, the second Miguel Malvar-class frigate will enhance the PN’s operational readiness, maritime domain protection, and capability to uphold a free, secure, and rules-based international order," she added. Robina Asido/DMS
