President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday expressed concern over the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia and called for the peaceful and lawful resolution of the dispute between the Philippines’ fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members.

In a statement, Marcos urged both parties to address the dispute through dialogue and adherence to international law.

“The Philippines views with concern the ongoing conflict between our two fellow ASEAN Member States and urges them to resolve the dispute in accordance with international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes,” Marcos said.

Underscoring the country’s commitment to ASEAN unity and regional stability, Marcos also offered his readiness to contribute to any efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and restoring peace.

“The Philippines stands ready to assist in any way to restore peace,” the President added.

Border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia continued into Saturday, with more than 30 soldiers and civilians reported killed, scores wounded, and more than 150,000 civilians evacuated since fighting began on Thursday. Presidential News Desk
