China denies meddling in other countries' affairs

China denies the accusation of a Philippine lawmaker on its possible interference in next month's midterm election, noting that it has no interest in meddling in other countries' domestic affairs.

"China follows the principle of non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs," China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said in a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

"We have no interest in interfering in Philippine elections," he added.

Earlier of the same day, Senator Francis Tolentino revealed that the Chinese Embassy released a check account to pay the so-called "social media warriors" which are also known as "troll farms" to influence the election and spread pro-China narratives.

National Security Council spokesman, Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya said the Council and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will conduct an investigation especially to build up cases against Filipinos involved in China's "influence operation". Robina Asido/DMS
