Gov't completes ''framework'' to crack down on ''fake news''

2025/4/23 英字

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has completed the "operational framework," to be used to crackdown on platforms spreading "fake news."

PCO Secretary Jay Ruiz made the announcement during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's sectoral meeting with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Monday.

The PCO assured it will coordinate with DICT's Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center (CICC) to go after people spreading ''fake news.''

Last month, the CICC announced it will launch an anti-deepfake app and set guidelines for content creators to combat the spread of fake news in time for the May midterm elections.

Deepfakes are generated by artificial intelligence.

Palace Press Office and Undersecretary Claire Castro earlier said the spread of fake news has resulted in the drop in the approval and trust rating of Marcos last month based on a recent Pulse Asia survey. DMS
