Magnitude 5.7 quake occurs in Sarangani

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake, which was earlier reported at magnitude 5.8, occured offshore Sarangani, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported Wednesday morning.

According to Phivolcs's second earthquake information bulletin, the quake's epicenter is located 55 kilometers southwest of Maitum, Saranggani.

Phivolcs said it is expecting aftershocks and damage from a tremor with a tectonic origin with a depth of one kilometer.

Intensity IV was felt in Kiamba in Sarangani, and T'boli, Banga, Surallah, and Tupi in South Cotabato; Intensity III in Maitum, Glan, Malungon, Malapatan, and Alabel in Sarangani, General Santos City, and Norala, City of Koronadal, Santo Nino, and Polomolok in South Cotabato; and Intensity II in Maasim in Sarangani, Lake Sebu, Tantangan, and Tampakan in South Cotabato, and Davao City.

In Instrumental Intensities, Intensity IV was recorded in Kiamba in Sarangani, T'Boli, Banga, Surallah, and Tupi in South Cotabato; and Kalamansig in Sultan Kudarat; Intensity III - Maitum, Glan, and Alabel, in Sarangani, Columbio, Esperanza, and Isulan in Sultan Kudarat, Norala, Koronadal City, Santo Nino, Lake Sebu, Polomolok, and Tampakan in South Cotabato, and General Santos City; Intensity II - Maasim in Sarangani, Bagumbayan, and President Quirino in Sultan Kudarat, and Davao City; and Intensity I in Kidapawan City and M'lang in Cotabato, Kalilangan in Bukidnon, Magsaysay and Matanao in Davao Del Sur, Kapatagan in Lanao del Sur, and City of Zamboanga.
