No Filipino has been reported dead or injured by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that jolted Myanmar and Thailand on Friday.

The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar on Saturday said they are still "gathering current and credible information on the status of all affected Filipinos in Myanmar in order to determine resources necessary to assist them, including the deployment of a team on the ground to conduct welfare checks on them".

Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Thailand "has not received any report of Filipino nationals who were harmed by this unfortunate disaster".

The tremblor jolted Myanmar and neighboring Thailand left at least 1,000 deaths, news reports said. The quake's epicenter was approximately 620 kilometers of Yangon, Myanmar.

In a radio interview Sunday, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they have not received any report of Filipinos "adversely affected" by the earthquake.

"So far we have not heard of any adversely affected OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) or Filipinos on the ground", Cacdac said.

"We’re also closely working with the DFA (Department of Foreign Affair) here in Manila and monitoring the situation", he added. Marie Manalili/DMS
