In a press briefing, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that there were no untoward incidents despite the beginning of a three-day transport strike led by transport group Manibela.

Manibela went on strike in protest in relation to the public utility vehicle modernization program and alleged jeepney consolidated figures presented by Land Transportation were not accurate.

The government deployed additional buses in the EDSA busway and trains for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 to counter the effect of the transport strike on the public.

DOTr implemented a one-hour extended operation of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 for weekdays starting Monday.

Dizon called on Manibela to hold their protest on its first day and engage in dialogue with the DOTr on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We're calling on the transport sector to hold a dialogue with us. Let us not hold a strike so that our commuters will not be inconvenienced", Dizon said.

LTFRB spokesperson Ariel Inton said the situation is "normal" as respective government agencies were prepared. The private sector and some universities who shifted to a virtual set up. Marie Manalili/DMS
