The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory (LTFRB) on Wednesday began its hearing on the proposed jeepney fare hike by several transport groups.

The move comes after the Department of Transportation hiked fares of the LRT-1, the country's first overhead rail system, on Tuesday.

Pasang Masda, Alliance of Concerned Transportation Organization (ACTO) and Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (ALTODAP) asked for a provisional increase of P1 and the supplemental petition where modern jeepneys were added.

A P2 provisionary increase in the minimum fare of public utility vehicles (PUV) and modern jeepneys were also petitioned by the group.

The current minimum fare for traditional jeepney is at P13 and P15 for modern jeepney.

Rate hike petitions for jeepneys have been pending since 2023 but a one peso provisional hike was approved.

LTFRB Board Member Joshua Viray ordered the legal counsel for the group to add the P2 provisionary increase motion into writing to be submitted within 10 days.

LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III deemed the case for resolution. Another hearing will be held on March 12 for in the event that the court wants to have additional questions on the supplemental petition.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP) withdrew their fare hike petition. Marie Manalili/DMS
