PPCRV, KBP call for Comelec's 'greater transparency' after delays on unofficial poll results at transparency server

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting ( PPCRV), along with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas ( KBP), asked on Monday the Commission on Elections for "greater transparency" after the poll body's transparency server recorded a delay in registering the unofficial results of the elections.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, however, was quick to say the transmission of the results from the vote counting machines from almost 86,000 clustered precincts have been continuing.

"There's no problem with the transmission...as of now, the transmission is at 80 percent," Jimenez told reporters at the PPCRV command center in Paco, Manila.

He explained that the problem occurred in the delivery of data from the transparency server to the media outlets, including the PPCRV.

"The cause of the problem is being studied right now," Jimenez said.

He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved by 4am on Tuesday as the Comelec en banc is expected to come up with a resolution that would allow the opening of error logs to see the problem.

"It's a kind of audit that's going to happen," he said, adding that IT people from different media outlets would be allowed to be present also.

Prior to Jimenez's visit to PPCRV Monday night, in a statement read by Howard Calleja, PPCRV's legal counsel, he said the poll watchdog and KBP have expressed their concerns about the problem.

"In the spirit of transparency," Calleja said they have requested the Comelec for an open recording devices for all the stakeholders to document the proceedings; and to allow other stakeholders, such as the majority, minority and independent political parties, media, and other election partners copy of the error logs.

"Along with the media partners and stakeholders, we urge the Comelec to resolve this issue at the soonest possible time," the official said.

But in the meantime, he also asked the public to be vigilant.

The PPCRV was supposed to get the partial unofficial results of the midterm elections from the Comelec's transparency server located at Pope Pius XII in Paco, Manila. Celerina Monte/DMS
