The rainy season across the western section of Luzon and Visayas is over as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) officially declared the end of southwest monsoon on Tuesday.
Pagasa said "the country is now transitioning to the northeast monsoon (amihan) season, which will be observed and declared in the coming weeks."
recent observations indicate that the southwest monsoon has been weakening during the past few weeks.
"Moreover, a gradual change of the country’s weather pattern has been observed due to the strengthening of the high-pressure system over East Asia and the southward migration of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). Forecast models also show this trend in the coming days," it said.
"With these developments, the Habagat (southwest monsoon) season has officially ended. Likewise, this marks the termination of the rainy season over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas," it added.
It can be recalled that the onset of the rainy season was declared by Pagasa last June 2, days after the beginning of the Southwest Monsoon was announced by the bureau.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said Tropical Storm ''Nakri'' may enter the northeastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It had winds of up to 65 kph and gusts of up to 80 kph. It was moving north northwest at 25 kph. Robina Asido/DMS
