Senator Alan Peter Cayetano proposed holding snap election for president, vice president, Senate and Congress usher in ''a clean slate for the Filipino people''.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Cayetano said ''What if we all just resign and allow a snap election. From The President, Vice President, Senate and Congress. With one important addition-- no incumbent from the above can run for one election cycle.''

Governors, mayors and barangay chairpersons are generally trusted and will be in place, said Cayetano.

He said this will lead to a ''turning point leading to ReNewal and ReVival.''

Cayetano's post came as the Philippine government is investigating flood control projects were millions of pesos were allegedly wasted, with some ending in commissions for public works officials and lawmakers.

It came as the Philippine military denied a coup against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

It also coincides with the announcement by Senator Panfilo Lacson relinquishing his chairmanship of the plum Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

Cayetano said that it is seen in ''social media (surveys) that politicians and political figures have their own group of genuine supporters, I dare say. now more than ever in our history, politicians are suspects.''

''People have lost trust in government and government officials . Honestly, who can blame them?,'' he added. DMS
