The 20 pesos per kilo of rice will stay and be offered in local public markets, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Sunday.

In his vlog, Marcos said the project will be offered to through cooperation between national and local governments and agencies, as more local markets sell 20 pesos per kilo of rice.

“Through cooperation between agencies of the national government and now in partnership with the local government, the P20 rice is here to stay. It is achievable, it is sustainable,” Marcos said.

The 20-peso per kilo of rice is only being offered to the vulnerable sectors, Marcos assured that it will be made available in local markets.

“As of now, we’re prioritizing the vulnerable sectors from those that need it the most… but watch out [for the 20 pesos per kilo of rice] in your nearest public market,” Marcos added.

Meanwhile, Marcos assured a minimum buying price of P18 per kilo of dry unhusked rice and P19 to P23 per kilo of wet unhusked rice have been mandated by the National Food Authority (NFA) to prevent unhusked rice prices from going down.

“No matter the price of rice in the market, the NFA will not buy palay from our farmers below these rates,” the president assured. Velle White/DMS
