A magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted the province of Davao Occidental early Saturday.
The epicenter of the offshore quake was recorded at 85km southeast of Sarangani Island in the municipality of Sarangani in Davao Occidental at 7:07 am.
The tremor, tectonic in origin, has a depth of 79 km.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported Intensity V over Glan and Malungon in Sarangani as well as in Pantukan in Davao de Oro and Intensity IV on Alabel, Kiamba, and Malapatan in Sarangani; in General Santos City; Tupi and City of Koronadal in South Cotabato; in the city of Davao; in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental and Monkayo in Davao de Oro.
Intensity III was also felt in Maasim and Maitum in Sarangani; also in Banga, Tampakan, Surallah, and Polomolok in South Cotabato; as well as in Maco and Nabunturan in Davao de Oro and in Matanao and Magsaysay in Davao del Sur.
Intensity II was also monitored in Tantangan, Norala, and Santo Nino in South Cotabato.
There is no damage expected while at least seven aftershocks including the 5.2 magnitude tremor (at 7:41 am) were monitored as of 2:52 pm. Robina Asido/DMS
