88% want Vice President Duterte to address impeachment charges: survey

2025/5/31 英字

A big majority of Filipinos believe that Vice President Sara Duterte must address impeachment charges which the House filed before the Senate last February 5, a survey firm said Friday.

In a survey by the Social Weather Stations in partnership with the Stratbase Group, around 1,800 respondents say Duterte ''must address the impeachment charges filed against her and answer allegations pertaining to corruption to hear her name.''

The survey was done from May 2 to May 6, or a week before the 2025 midterm national elections where Duterte's PDP-Laban senatorial candidates won five of 12 Senate seats, the same as the administration's Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipino.

The Senate has set June 11 for the House to present the articles of impeachment of Duterte from June 2 so as to tackle priority bills for the 19th Congress adjourns sine die, Senate President Francis Escudero said Thursday.

Duterte is facing charges, which include culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust and for allegedly contracting an assassin and plotting to murder or assassinate the President, First Lady and the Speaker of the House. The trial is tentatively set on July 30.

Stratbase Group head Dindo Manhit said ''it's about time for her to answer all the allegations filed against her.'' DMS
