Vice President Duterte's trust rating still higher than Marcos: survey

2025/5/27 英字

The trust rating of Vice President Sara Duterte, who is facing an impeachment trial in the Senate, remains high compared to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. despite gains before the election.

A Pulse Asia survey released on Monday and conducted before the May 12 mid-term poll, shows that the trust rating of Marcos increased to 32 percent in May from 29 percent in April.

However, the ranking of Marcos remained lower than Duterte, whose ranking went down to 50 percent in May from 57 percent in April and 61 percent in March.

But Marcos' net trust rating fell to minus 10 after a no trust of 42 percent. The vice president's net trust reached plus 25 percent with a no trust of 25 percent.

Former President Duterte's no trust reached 17 percent for a net trust rating of 46 percent.

It can be noted that the trust rating of Marcos continued to increase after it significantly went down to 25 percent in March after the arrest and surrender of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

In February, the rating of Marcos was at 42 percent with only 11 percentage point difference from the Vice President Duterte who garnered 53 percent.

The survey, which was conducted from May 6 to 9, also shows majority of Filipinos opposed the impeachment of Vice President Duterte and the arrest and surrender of her father to the Hague in March.

Only 28 percent agreed on the filing of an impeachment case against the vice president while 50 percent others disagreed.

It also shows that only 26 percent have agreed with the arrest of the former president while 58 others opposed his arrest due to alleged crime against humanity.

The result of the survey also reflected on the recently concluded May 12 mid-term election where only five among the senatorial bets of Marcos entered the winning circle. Robina Asido/DMS
